Definition

Rotator cuff is the group of muscles and their tendons that act to stabilize the shoulder. There are four muscles that form the rotator cuff including  the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and supscapularis.

The muscles all arise off the scapula and insert on the humeral head.

Functionally they serve to stabilise the humeral head on the  glenoid fossa.
