En Pointe

The en pointe technique results in the full weight of the dancer being directed to the tarsals and metatarsals , requiring hours of practice to perfect.  Dance and particulalrly “pointe” is not an infrequent cause of stress fractures of the foot and  specifically the metatrasal bones.

Boston Marathon

These runners have just entered the final stages of the 26 mile Boston marathon following years of practice and hours of  training requiring repeated pounding of their full weight on their feet.  Marathon running is not an uncommon cause of stress fractures.
