Radioscapholunate ligament

The radioscapholunate of the musculoskeletal system is characterized by its location and function.

It is part of the wrist joint. It consists of fibrous dense regular connective tissue of collagen fibers.

Its unique structural feature is that it spans from the palmar aspect of ridge between scaphoid & lunate fossa & inserts into scapholunate interosseous ligament.

The radioscapholunate ligament of the wrist as well as all other bones, muscles, and ligaments of the body are derived of mesodermal origin in the embryo.

The function of the radioscapholunate ligament is to provide support to the wrist.

Common diseases include ligament tears, dislocation, and fractures.

Commonly used diagnostic procedures include clinical history, physical exam, x-ray, and MRI.

It is usually treated with physical therapy and NSAIDs. Surgery can be performed if there is significant laxity in the wrist or with a fracture that is unstable.
